    St. Joseph Hospital was named as one of the “Best Regional Hospitals” in the Los Angeles/Orange County Metropolitan Area for meeting stringent benchmarks in nine inpatient surgical procedures and chronic conditions. Out of more than 4,500 hospitals evaluated by U.S. News, only 63 hospitals earned “high performing” ratings in all nine categories. St. Joseph Hospital's Orthopedics program also earned a “high performing” rating.

    Blue Cross Blue Shield designated St. Joseph Hospital's Hip and Knee Replacement Program as a Blue Distinction Center for meeting nationally established quality-focused criteria and demonstrating expertise in delivering quality specialty care safely and effectively.

  • Blue Distinction Center+ for Bariatric Surgery (2016)

    St. Joseph Hospital’s Bariatric Surgery Program was named a Blue Distinction Center+ for Bariatric Surgery (gastric stapling and gastric banding). The program is also accredited by the MBSAQIP and named a Center of Excellence by Cigna.

  • State of California Breastfeeding

    St. Joseph Hospital has the highest percentage of new moms who breastfeed exclusively. More than any other hospital in Orange County, Los Angeles County, Riverside, and San Bernardino, according to the Hospital Breastfeeding Rates Report released by California WIC Association and the UC Davis Human Lactation Center. Breastfeeding support is an essential part of high quality maternal care.

  • U.S. News & World Report’s Best Regional Hospitals (2016-2017)

    St. Jude Medical Center was recognized as one of California’s top hospitals. Among 134 hospitals in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, St. Jude ranked 7th and 16 in the state, while also earning “High Performing Hospital” designations—in 11 areas, including: orthopedics, lung cancer surgery, gastroenterology and GI surgery, knee replacement, hip replacement, colon cancer surgery, urology, heart failure, COPD, heart bypass surgery and abdominal aortic aneurysm repair.

  • Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center

    The Joint Commission and American Heart Association/American Stroke Association designated St. Jude Medical Center as an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center, a national recognition which honors those hospitals that meet its exacting standards for the treatment of stroke and make exceptional efforts to foster better patient outcomes. St. Jude is proud to be among only 100 hospitals to have earned this designation in the nation, and only 10 in the state. (Accreditation is for 2015 - 2017)

  • Three-year Accreditation by The Joint Commission

    By meeting the highest national standards in patient safety and quality of care, St. Jude earned 3-year accreditation by The Joint Commission. The accreditation is based on the results of an unannounced on-site survey. Founded in 1951, The Joint Commission is dedicated to continuously improving the safety and quality of the nation's healthcare through voluntary accreditation. (Accreditation is for 2015 - 2019)

  • Cardiac Surgery Ranks Among Nation's Best

    St. Jude Medical Center's cardiac surgery program received the top national ranking—three stars—from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. The comprehensive rating system compares the quality of Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) outcomes among hospitals across the country. Less than 15 percent of hospitals receive this recognition. This ranking is based on data results for measurement year 2014.

  • C-section Rates Among the Lowest

    A hospital safety watchdog group has created a national database for expectant parents to look up hospital Cesarean rates. St. Jude’s 13.5 percent rate was the lowest in the county. Cesarean births results in major surgery, longer recoveries times for mothers and higher health care costs.

  • Blue Distinction® Center

    Blue Cross and Blue Shield named St. Jude Medical Center a Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care, knee and hip replacement, and spine surgery. The honor recognizes hospitals that demonstrate expertise in providing quality care and is designed to help consumers identify which hospitals offer better outcomes (e.g., fewer medical complications, fewer readmissions and higher survival rates) in the delivery of specialty care.

  • Blue Distinction® Center Plus

    Blue Cross and Blue Shield named St. Jude Medical Center a Blue Distinction Center + for cardiac care, maternity care, knee and hip replacement and spine surgery. The honor recognizes hospitals that demonstrate the highest level of quality patient care and is designed to help consumers identify which hospitals offer better outcomes (e.g., fewer medical complications, fewer readmissions and higher survival rates) in the delivery of specialty care.

  • Three-year Accreditation for Rehabilitation

    St. Jude Centers for Rehabilitation received a three-year accreditation (the most years possible) by CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) for inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation. St. Jude is just one of only two facilities in Southern California to receive accreditation in both spinal cord and brain injury (inpatient and outpatient), and one of three in the state to receive accreditation in outpatient stroke rehabilitation. (Accreditation is for 2016 - 2019)

  • Accreditation by the NAPBC

    Received by St. Jude Kathryn T. McCarty Breast Center in Orange County from the American College of The St. Jude Kathryn T. McCarty Breast Center received a three year accreditation from the American College of Surgeons National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). Accreditation by the NAPBC is granted only to those centers committed to providing the best possible care to patients with diseases of the breast. St. Jude is one of only two centers in Orange County to earn this recognition. Each breast center must undergo a rigorous evaluation and demonstrate a multidisciplinary approach that encourages optimal care and the most effective treatment options available. (Accreditation is for 2016 - 2019)

  • St. Jude Earns 2016 Gold Plus Award

    For the third year in a row, St. Jude Medical Center’s Stroke Center has been awarded the American Heart/American Stroke Association's 2016 Gold Plus Award, an advanced level of recognition that acknowledges St. Jude’s compliance with the Quality Measures within the Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Program. Get With The Guidelines® is a program that helps ensure consistent application of the most recent American Heart Association/American Stroke Association scientific guidelines for patient treatment.

  • Target Stroke Honor Roll-Elite Award

    St. Jude has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®–Target: Stroke Honor Roll-Elite Quality Achievement Award for 2016. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment and success ensuring that stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized and research-based guidelines. Hospitals must meet quality measures developed to reduce the time between the patient’s arrival and treatment with the clot-buster tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA, the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat ischemic stroke. St. Jude has also met the stringent guidelines to be distinguished an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center.

  • Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) Certification Program

    St. Jude Heritage Medical Group oncologists and hematologists at the St. Jude Virginia K. Crosson Cancer Center are among the first in the nation to be recognized by the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) Certification Program, an affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). The QOPI Certification Program is an initiative to recognize oncology practices that meet rigorous standards for high-quality cancer care. (Certification is for 2014 - 2016).

  • Outstanding Achievement Award

    St. Jude was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, an honor earned by only 5 percent of the nation's hospitals. (Award is for 2014 - 2016)
